The funding of cryptocurrency and Blockchain businesses by venture capitalists reached a new all-time high of US$ 6.5 billion in the third quarter of 2021, following an equally strong second quarter.

According to a new report from market intelligence specialists CB Insights, there were 286 crypto-related deals in the third quarter, down slightly from 291 in the previous quarter.
Coinbase Ventures was the most active of investors, with 24 deals, followed by CMT Digital and Polychain Capital, with nine deals each. Crypto exchanges led the pack by raising nearly US$ 2 billion in the third quarter, up from just US$ 84 million raised in the third quarter of 2020.
Eduardo Carvalho, founder and CEO of Dynasty Global Investments AG, commented:
"There are at least two important factors behind this major jump in VCs investing in Blockchain-based businesses: one is that 2020 supressed investments due to the pandemic whilst also increasing awareness of the power of digital financial tools; the other factor is that they are seeing something I have been highlighting for quite a while: that Blockchain technology brings the kind of transformational power to the financial sector that the internet brought to the communication sector."
