Niantic, the game developers behind Pokemon Go, has partnered with financial company Fold to create a new game that can generate Bitcoin for its players.
The new game is loosely based on Pokemon but, instead of capturing monsters, players must find cubes of binary code to reveal the prize.
According to Fold CEO, Will Reeves, the augmented reality game is based on the metaphor of ‘mining’ Bitcoin, with prizes in satoshis, a very small fraction of a Bitcoin. The creators plan to add features to the game, including the ability to geocache Bitcoin for friends to find and add non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as part of the offer. Mr Reeves added that the aim is to make the virtual currency feel more real through the creation of an AR environment for it.
