The US cinema chain AMC has announced that, in addition to its plans to accept Bitcoin, it will also take payments in Ethereum, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash to pay for tickets and concessions by the end of this year.
The announcement, made on Twitter by AMC CEO Adam Aron, follows the company’s disclosure last month that it was working on plans to begin accepting bitcoin as payment for tickets and concessions.
"“Although there’s still some way to go, I can see a day sooner than later when we will be able to buy pretty much everything – from popcorn at the cinema to big ticket items like cars and property – using cryptos and Blockchain technology, and steps taken by major chains like AMC are making this possible”, remarked Dynasty Global Investments AG’s CEO and co-founder, Eduardo Carvalho."
According to business publication Fortune, AMC’s move follows an eventful year, with its shares dropping as low as US$ 2 per share before bouncing back to as high as US$ 72, currently hovering at around $48. It has also seen the arrival of new investors, with a keener eye on digital assets.
“I’ve had to learn more in the past six months about Blockchain and cryptocurrencies than I learned about it in the entire decade before that”, said Aron on earnings call in August.
