Sheetz, a Pennsylvania-based chain with over 600 stores in several US states, will start taking payments with cryptos using an instant digital currency conversion service. Customers using Sheetz’s facilities in states like Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia will soon be able to pay for goods at their convenience stores, with plans for the scheme to be rolled out to their fuel pumps later this year.
Scheetz explores new payment offers to their customers.
According to specialist retail site CSA, the move will make Sheetz the first US convenience store to accept cryptocurrencies by using the Flexa digital payment platform, to instantly convert them into US dollars. The system has been previously trialled with other big retailing chains in the US, including booksellers Barnes & Noble, department store Nordstrom and grocers Whole Foods Market.
"“From my experience in retail, I think the time is ripe for stores to offer simple and easy ways for customers to use cryptocurrencies as part of their day-to-day shopping”, stated Fábio Asdurian, Dynasty Global Investments AG’s co-founder and CEO."
According to Sheetz’s payments manager, Linda Smith, the move is part of an approach to “constantly innovate and explore new offerings to truly give customers what they want”.
